What I offer

As a psychiatrist with over 20 years of clinical experience in psychiatry, I provide:

  • Comprehensive psychiatric assessments

  • Diagnosis and treatment planning

  • Medication management with shared decision-making

  • Psychotherapy using cognitive behavioural and interpersonal approaches

  • Care coordination with psychologists, GPs, and other health professionals

Treatment is always tailored to your needs. In many cases, collaborative care—with your GP and psychologist involved—is both effective and affordable. I work to ensure your care stays connected, thoughtful, and responsive over time.

A Whole-Person Approach to Mental Health

At Ghel Practice, I care for the whole person—not just the diagnosis. Mental health is deeply connected to your body, your relationships, your work, and the unique pressures of your life. That’s why I take a holistic approach: one that values your story, honours your strengths, and supports your well-being with professionalism and care.

Whether you’re going through a crisis or facing a longer-term challenge, I’m here to guide you with clarity, empathy, and respect. We make all treatment decisions together—after discussing every option, including whether medication is appropriate for you.

Crisis Intervention and Urgent Support

Mental health crises—such as emotional breakdowns, intense distress, or the sudden onset of severe symptoms—require urgent support. I offer prompt intervention to help stabilise your situation, explore what’s driving the crisis, and begin immediate relief strategies. Where helpful, short-term medication may be considered—always with your informed consent and understanding of benefits and risks.

If you are in immediate danger or unable to stay safe, please contact emergency services by calling 000 or attend your nearest Emergency Department.
Ghel Practice is not an emergency service, but I can support you after crisis stabilisation and help guide longer-term recovery.

Conditions I Commonly Treat

Depression

Low mood, loss of motivation, sleep disruption, and a sense of emptiness can deeply affect your daily life. Depression may appear gradually or suddenly and often needs support to resolve. I help you understand its roots and work with you toward recovery.

Anxiety Disorders

Persistent worry, panic attacks, social anxiety, or physical tension can interfere with your ability to feel at ease. I offer evidence-based treatment to reduce symptoms and help you regain a sense of calm and confidence.

Bipolar Disorder

Bipolar disorder involves alternating periods of elevated and low mood that affect sleep, judgment, and functioning. With appropriate care, many people live balanced and fulfilling lives.

Postpartum depression (PPD)

Postpartum depression (PPD) is a serious, lasting depression that some women experience after childbirth. It’s more intense and longer-lasting than the “baby blues,” causing deep sadness, anxiety, exhaustion, and difficulty bonding with the baby. It’s a treatable medical condition, not a sign of weakness.

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

OCD involves unwanted thoughts and repetitive behaviours that feel difficult to control. Structured treatment helps reduce the impact on your daily life and restore a sense of control.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

After trauma, symptoms like flashbacks, nightmares, and hypervigilance may persist. I help you process these experiences and work toward feeling safer and more grounded again.

Complex Trauma (C-PTSD) and Emotional Dysregulation

Long-term trauma or early life adversity can lead to difficulties with emotional regulation, trust, and identity. I provide trauma-informed care to help you understand these patterns and find greater stability and self-compassion.

Trauma-Related Sleep Disturbance

Disturbed sleep after trauma—whether through nightmares, insomnia, or disrupted rhythms—is common. Treatment focuses on restoring restful sleep as a foundation for emotional recovery.

Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

In adults, ADHD may cause trouble with attention, organisation, restlessness, or impulsivity. Assessment and treatment can improve focus, reduce stress, and support daily functioning.

Adjustment Disorders

Sudden life changes—like illness, relationship shifts, or loss—can cause emotional strain. Adjustment disorders often include symptoms of anxiety or depression, but with timely support, most people recover well.

Chronic Stress and Burnout

Ongoing stress can lead to emotional exhaustion, physical symptoms, and a loss of meaning or motivation. Treatment helps you identify stressors, regain balance, and reconnect with what sustains you.

Grief, Loss, and Life Transitions

Grief after bereavement, divorce, relocation, or career change is a normal—yet deeply personal—process. I support you through emotional transitions and help you find meaning and direction as life evolves.

Personality Patterns and Interpersonal Challenges

If you find yourself caught in painful emotional cycles, struggling in relationships, or managing difficult traits like emotional reactivity or avoidance, we can work together to make sense of these patterns and find healthier ways forward.

This may include:

  • Emotionally unstable or avoidant personality traits

  • Difficulties with boundaries, self-worth, or trust

  • Struggles with shame, perfectionism, or chronic self-doubt

  • Longstanding inner conflict or emotional pain

Medication and Treatment Planning

In all cases, I offer clear, collaborative guidance around the use of psychiatric medications. My approach is cautious, evidence-based, and always includes time to discuss the benefits, risks, and alternatives. For many, effective treatment involves a combination of medication, psychotherapy, and social support.

Working Together

Whether you’re reaching out for the first time or returning after a break in care, I aim to create a space where you feel heard, respected, and supported—without judgment. Together, we can clarify what’s happening, explore treatment options, and build a path toward resilience, clarity, and a renewed sense of self.
